What's going on in BILD 96?

ANNOUCEMENTS: News about this class will be posted here as soon as it's available.  Check back often to learn what's going on in the class.

Welcome to BILD 96!

The theme of this class is communication in the sciences, and the skills you practice by doing the assignments will stand you in good stead throughout your time at UCSD and on into post-graduate education and even in your career.

What happens in this class?

The class will meet every Monday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in York Hall 3010.  There will be a specific assignment for each class meeting, and if you must miss a class, you won't have a chance to make-up that assignment.

Instructor:  Dr. Kathy French (kfrench@ucsd.edu, 858-534-5938, Pacific Hall 3123B)

Grading in this class:  This class is run on a Pass/No pass basis; there are no letter grades.  In order to pass the class, each student commits to completing all of the assignments and participating in class discussions.  I hope that no one will miss classes, but each student can miss one class without penalty.  Missing more than one class will jeopardize your passing grade.  A role sheet will be available at every class meeting:  Please be sure that you sign it.

General plan for each class meeting:

Each meeting of the class will start with the assignment for that day.  Students will all get a chance to report on what they did for the assignment or to give a brief presentation to the rest of the class (depending on the nature of the assignment).  We'll have food on the days when students give talks.

In the second part of each class meeting, we'll consider the assignment for the following week, discussing the communication skills that you'll need to do complete the assignment effectively.
