General Information:

Welcome to Structural Biochemistry at UCSD taught by Dr. Mauricio Montal. In this course you will learn to appreciate the structures and fundamental makeup of proteins. As an active student you should always ask the questions why and how and so what? Dr. Montal has mentioned in class that the NIH is placed a national importance on the study of proteins and their structure. "It is amazing that we know so much and yet we know so little."

The class is essentially broken into 6 parts: Structural Principles, Recognition, Energy and Signal Transduction, Dynamics, Catalysis, and Folding and Design. The first midterm is on April 28th and the final is on June 8th. There are 5 articles that will be required reading which you can find on this website on the "Articles" link. Additional information and software such as the Kinemage CD is also located on this website under "Links and Helpful Sites."
