Travel information:
Arriving by air:
From San Diego Airport
(Lindbergh Field), you can take either a shuttle or a cab to the UCSD
campus. For groups, a cab is
probably cheaper and certainly faster.
The driver should exit the 5 freeway at Gilman, take Gilman Dr north
until it dead-ends into Voight Dr., then turn left on Voight and go to the
Warren College apartments/dormitories.
If confused, check the UCSD map.
Arriving by car:
Coming south on the 5
freeway, exit on La Jolla Village Dr. and go right. Turn right at the first light (Villa La Jolla Dr.) and go
past the VA hospital to Gilman Dr.
Turn right on Gilman, and then follow Gilman and Voight to Warren College
as described above. If confused, check the UCSD map. Parking on campus is complimentary (i.e. free) to all
conference participants.
Where's the beach?
The closest beach that can be
reached on foot is at the bottom of Black's canyon. To get there, cross N. Torrey Pines Road at Muir Lane near
Peterson Hall and take the foot path to La Jolla Farms Rd. Turn right and walk a short distance to
the intersection with Blackgold Rd.
Turn left and walk past the gate and down the road to the beach. The total distance is about half a
mile. The beach is quite nice and
due to its relative inaccessibility by car relatively uncrowded. For what it is worth, there are also
often naked people there.
Getting around by
bus:
If you do not bring a car,
you can get around San Diego reasonably effectively by bus. UCSD is served by several bus lines
which generally run on schedule; timetables can be found at
www.sdcommute.com/service/mapstts.htm.
Some useful routes and their destinations are: 34 (inbound: La
Jolla, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Old Town; outbound: lots of malls), 30 (inbound: La Jolla, P. B., Downtown; weekdays
only), 301 (outbound: Del Mar,
Solana Beach, more beaches).
