Text Box: My research addresses fundamental questions related to the ecological and genetic basis of adaptive change in natural plant populations. In order to fully understand how organisms adapt to their environments, we need to thoroughly evaluate the ecological significance of traits thought to be adaptive, and we need to describe their genetic architecture. To do this, I take an interdisciplinary approach that combines evolutionary genetics and genomics with the extensive molecular information currently available about floral pigmentation pathways to connect molecular variation with phenotype and fitness in nature.
